La chiesa di San Maria è la chiesa parrocchiale cattolica di Salzgitter-Bad ed è la seconda chiesa cattolica più antica nel territorio della città di Salzgitter.
Una prima chiesa dedicata a Maria a Salzgitter esisteva già nel XV secolo. Questa era costruita in legno e si trovava nei pressi dell'attuale piazza di Maria a Salzgitter-Bad. Questa chiesa è stata menzionata per la prima volta il 14 febbraio 1452, quando i fratelli Dietrich e Arndt von Gitter trasferirono una fattoria e tre biolche di terra alla "Capella della nostra cara signora". In un ulteriore documento del 30 maggio 1478, ai patroni della chiesa venne concessa una mezza biolca nella zona di Vepstedt e quattro fattorie a Salzgitter.
