La chiesa di San Trinitatis a Wolfenbüttel è una delle chiese più significative nello stile barocco in Germania.
Dove oggi si trova la chiesa, un tempo sorgeva il Kaisertor, costruito da Cort Menge negli anni 1570-1578. Con una superficie di 34 × 26 metri era un grande edificio a due piani. Dopo la Guerra dei Trent'anni, il Kaisertor era diventato militarmente inutile, quindi la sala di giustizia al piano superiore venne utilizzata dal 1655 come sala di culto - come soluzione temporanea e sostituto di una chiesa a graticcio costruita tra il 1588 e il 1589 e demolita nel 1655 durante l'espansione delle fortificazioni cittadine. La sala di culto offriva 350 posti a sedere per il servizio religioso, mentre il piano terra continuava a essere utilizzato dalla guarnigione.
