La fontana di Merkur a Bielefeld è un'opera di Herbert Volwahsen. La vasca in pietra lunga 5,50 m è stata installata nel 1963 davanti alla Banca Lampe nella Piazza Vecchia di Bielefeld come punto finale della ricostruzione dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. La fontana, realizzata interamente nello stile degli anni '60, divenne presto un simbolo della città. Su un semicerchio bronzeo, simile a un globo terrestre, fluttua in una posa dinamica il Mercurio alto 2,70 m, che tiene il suo bastone nella mano destra. Sul casco e sui sandali, appena accennati, sono visibili le piccole ali. Le nuvole su cui il dio greco fluttua sono simulate da piccole fontane d'acqua.
