L'area protetta della Rheinaue Walsum nel quartiere Walsum di Duisburg e nella città di Dinslaken forma il lembo meridionale della zona umida "Basso Reno". Si estende sulla riva destra del Reno dal porto nord di Walsum verso nord fino alla confluenza dell'Emscher e include nella parte settentrionale anche una piccola area sulla riva sinistra del Reno.
