La Chiesa Evangelica di Katernberg è un edificio ecclesiastico nel quartiere settentrionale di Katernberg a Essen. La più grande chiesa evangelica di Essen è sotto protezione dei monumenti.
Le attività della Miniera Zollverein nel promettente settore del carbone bituminoso causarono un aumento repentino della popolazione grazie all'immigrazione di lavoratori. Molti operai emigrati dalle regioni orientali aumentarono il numero dei membri della comunità evangelica già all'inizio degli anni 1870 di 1500. Il presidente del consiglio della miniera Zollverein e protestante riformato Hugo Haniel introdusse un sussidio annuale allo stipendio del pastore di 1500 marchi per dieci anni, il che portò alla fondazione di una comunità ecclesiastica autonoma, approvata dallo stato e dalla chiesa nel 1874. Inizialmente le funzioni religiose si tenevano in una scuola.
