Il villaggio si trova a quattro chilometri a nord-est di Bad Freienwalde, sul versante sud-est dell'isola di Neuenhagen. La B 158 passa a circa un chilometro a nord-ovest del luogo.
La zona attorno a Gabow è abitata fin dal Neolitico. Da questo periodo è stato trovato un martello di pietra. Nel 1933 sono state trovate punte di lancio e bracciali in bronzo su un campo durante l'aratura. Questi provengono dall'età del bronzo recente. Nel 1996 sono stati scoperti frammenti tardoslavici. Il nome Gabow indica anche una fondazione slava nel XII o XIII secolo. Nel Libro Fondiario della Neumark il luogo è registrato come Grabow. All'epoca vi abitavano 21 famiglie.
