Il Lilienstein è una delle montagne più distintive delle montagne di arenaria dell'Elba in Sassonia. È l'unica montagna a forma di tavola a est dell'Elba e rappresenta il simbolo del parco nazionale della Svizzera sassone.
Il suo nome non ha nulla a che fare con i fiori, è probabilmente derivato da St. Gilgen o St. Ilgen. Questa radice del nome risale al Santo Egidio.
