Il castello di caccia di Oberhof si trova nella città di campagna di Oberhof, nel distretto di Schmalkalden-Meiningen, in Turingia.
Già nel 1616, il duca Giovanni Ernesto I fece costruire un castello di caccia presso Oberhof, nell'ufficio di Schwarzwald, su un terreno di una casa principesca con otto stanze nella "prateria". Il nuovo castello era circondato da un muro quadrato. Da quel momento, la corte di Weimar organizzò qui due grandi caccie di corte all'anno. Nel 1634, questo edificio andò distrutto in un incendio. Dopo che l'ufficio di Schwarzwald fu assegnato al neo-costituito ducato di Sassonia-Gotha nel 1640, non si pensò inizialmente a una ricostruzione. In compenso, il duca Ernesto I costruì una casa principesca a Oberhof.
