Nell'incidente aereo avvenuto a Bremerhaven il 26 dicembre 2001, un Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander della Bremerhaven Airline si schiantò nel Weser poco dopo il decollo. Era in volo dall'aeroporto di Bremerhaven verso l'isola tedesca del Mare del Nord Wangerooge.
Il Britten-Norman decollò alle 10:12 dalla pista 34. L'aereo decollò, ma guadagnò a malapena quota. Sopra il Weser, l'aereo eseguì una curva a sinistra, perse quota e si schiantò nel fiume con l'ala sinistra per prima. Sette passeggeri e il pilota morirono, un passeggero sopravvisse gravemente ferito.
