En el accidente aéreo en Bremerhaven el 26 de diciembre de 2001, un Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander de Bremerhaven Airline se estrelló en el Weser poco después del despegue. Estaba en vuelo desde el aeropuerto de Bremerhaven hacia la isla alemana del Mar del Norte, Wangerooge.
El Britten-Norman despegó a las 10:12 desde la pista 34. Aunque el avión despegó, apenas ganó altura. Sobre el Weser, el avión realizó un giro a la izquierda, perdió altura y se estrelló primero con el ala izquierda en el río. Siete pasajeros y el piloto murieron, una pasajera sobrevivió gravemente herida.
