La stazione della metropolitana Rathaus Essen è una stazione sotterranea nel centro di Essen, servita da tutte le linee tranviarie di Essen. È stata costruita per il servizio della metropolitana di Essen, ma attualmente viene utilizzata solo dal tram di Essen a causa della mancanza di ulteriori sviluppi della rete.
La stazione della metropolitana è una delle tre stazioni di interscambio pianificate tra la metropolitana e il tram. Tuttavia, a differenza delle altre due stazioni di interscambio, al momento non svolge questa funzione, poiché finora è servita esclusivamente dai tram. Il motivo è che ulteriori piani per l'espansione della rete metropolitana sono stati nel frattempo scartati.
