La chiusa di Fürstenberg si trova al chilometro 60,70 della via navigabile dell'Alta Havel a Fürstenberg/Havel nel distretto di Oberhavel. Essa si colloca nel collegamento tra il lago Röblinsee e il lago Baalensee a est del ponte stradale della strada federale 96.
In un'ispezione del 2004 sono state riscontrate notevoli carenze strutturali nell'intero impianto di chiusura. Nel 2009 è stato assegnato il contratto di costruzione per una nuova costruzione, che è stata effettuata tra settembre 2009 e giugno 2010. I costi di costruzione ammontano a circa 7 milioni di euro e sono stati coperti dall'amministrazione federale dei corsi d'acqua e della navigazione.
