Questa fontana è un dono della città gemellata ceca di Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) ed è stata progettata dall'artista ceco Jan Kotek . La fontana simboleggia la vita eterna, il giorno e la notte, e la forza imperitura della natura.
La fontana si trova in Karlsbader Platz , una piazza inaugurata nel luglio 2005 per celebrare il gemellaggio tra Bernkastel-Kues e Karlovy Vary. Questo gemellaggio esiste dal 1990 ed è caratterizzato da una vivace cooperazione e scambio tra le due città.
La fontana è composta da diversi elementi:
Il volto di una ragazza che rappresenta il giorno.
Il volto di un ragazzo con gli occhi chiusi simboleggia la notte.
Due serpenti che incarnano il potere eterno e che, tra le altre cose, hanno dei grappoli d'uva sul corpo, a ricordare la tradizione vinicola della regione.
