Il Portale di Pietroburgo , la cui costruzione iniziò nel 1620 , è una porta monumentale che fa parte dell'ex Palazzo Elettorale (Kurfürstliches Palais), che fu la residenza degli arcivescovi e degli elettori di Treviri dal XVI fino alla fine del XVIII secolo.
Quando il Niederschloss (Castello Inferiore) del palazzo fu in gran parte demolito dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, rimasero solo la Torre Rossa e il Portale di Pietroburgo.
Il nome non ha nulla a che fare con la città di San Pietroburgo, ma si riferisce al santo patrono di Treviri, San Pietro. Una statua di San Pietro, realizzata da Hans Rupprecht Hoffmann il Giovane, si erge sulla sommità del portale.
