La collina è stata costruita su una cima morenica risalente all'era glaciale. Per quanto si possa giudicare dalla misurazione, la collina originariamente aveva un diametro di 18 m e un'altezza di 4 m. Sfortunatamente, l'intera metà superiore è stata scavata nel tempo, quindi oggi della parte superiore della collina rimane solo un dosso largo 5 m e alto 1 m.
Hellehøj si trova a 89 m sopra il livello del mare. La collina è stata protetta nel 1972 come protezione panoramica, storica e ricreativa.
Il blocco di granito sulla collina è una stazione trigonometrica, utilizzata dall'Agenzia Geodata come punto fisso per le misurazioni cartografiche.
