Meruelo è un comune spagnolo di 1.652 abitanti situato nella comunità autonoma della Cantabria, comarca di Trasmiera.
Posto al centro della comarca, attraversato dal fiume Campiazo, si trova in una posizione strategica di passaggio a metà strada fra la baia di Santander e l'estuario del fiume Asón. Questa strada esisteva anche al tempo dei Romani ed univa i porti delle coste di Cantabria.
