Il castello di Calonge è situato nel nucleo antico del paese di Calonge, nella regione del Baix Empordà. Il primo documento che menziona Calonge si trova in un diploma di Carlomano dell'881 dove appaiono i termini di Romanyà e Colonica come confine nord della Vall d'Aro che veniva concessa al vescovo di Girona Teuter. Nella seconda metà del secolo x, il monastero di Sant Feliu de Guíxols possedeva un alodio a Calonge, come confermato in un diploma del re carolingio Lotario I di Francia, nell'anno 968. Il castello è menzionato all'inizio del secolo xii e alla fine di questo secolo il castello è direttamente posseduto dai conti-re e infeudato a Ramon de Solius che rese omaggio ad Alfonso il Cast nel 1193 per il castello di «Calonge de Marítima».
