Slottet i Calonge ligger i den gamle bydel af Calonge, i regionen Baix Empordà. Den første dokumenterede omtale af Calonge findes i et diplom fra Carloman fra 881, hvor termerne Romanyà og Colonica optræder som den nordlige grænse for Vall d'Aro, der blev givet til biskoppen af Girona, Teuter. I den anden halvdel af det 10. århundrede havde klosteret Sant Feliu de Guíxols en ejendom i Calonge, som bekræftes af et diplom fra den karolingiske konge Lotari I af Frankrig i året 968. Slottet nævnes i begyndelsen af det 12. århundrede, og i slutningen af dette århundrede er slottet direkte eje af kongerne, feudalt til Ramon de Solius, som sværger troskab til Alfons den Cast i året 1193 for slottet "Calonge de Marítima".
