Il deserto di Tabernas , l'unico deserto geograficamente considerato come tale localizzato in Europa, è un sito a gariga arida localizzato nella provincia di Almería in Andalusia, in Spagna, circa 30 km a nord della città di Almería.È compreso principalmente nei comuni di Tabernas, Gádor, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Alboloduy e Gérgal ed è protetto come riserva naturale: copre una superficie di 280 km². Le poche piogge che si verificano sono generalmente torrenziali, ragion per cui il suolo caratterizzato da marne e arenarie sedimentarie comporta la presenza di una scarsa vegetazione per l'incapacità di trattenere l'umidità. Al contempo, si sviluppa una grande erosione, la quale è la causa della formazione dei caratteristici calanchi locali.
