Il Regno di León , in italiano desueto Regno di Lione, fu un regno medievale situato nel nord-ovest della penisola iberica. Ebbe origine dalla divisione del Regno delle Asturie da parte di Alfonso III nel X secolo.Questa suddivisione fu conseguenza della sollevazione di nobili, organizzata dal conte di Castiglia, Nuño Fernández, per liberare il figlio maggiore di Alfonso, Garcia; la sollevazione fu appoggiata anche dalla regina Jimena e dagli altri figli di Alfonso, Fruela e Ordoño. Alfonso III, per evitare una guerra civile, liberò Garcia, abdicò e si ritirò a Zamora con la moglie Jimena, dividendo il regno tra i suoi tre figli maggiori:
