Fondata nel 1989, l'Università Carlo III di Madrid è una delle sei università pubbliche della Comunità autonoma di Madrid con la Complutense , l'Università Autonoma di Madrid , l'Università Politecnica di Madrid , l'Università di Alcalá e l'Università Rey Juan Carlos .Si tratta di un'istituzione delle dimensioni contenute , caratterizzata dal rigore e dal rapporto stretto tra studenti e professori. Dal momento della sua fondazione, ha sempre cercato di mantenersi fedele ai principi promulgati dall'Institución Libre de Enseñanza. Si compone di tre campus distribuiti per la provincia . Offre circa 40 corsi di laurea che vengono ripartiti tra le seguenti aree: tecnica, giuridica, socioeconomica e umanistica, senza dimenticare altre subaree come comunicazione e la Biblioteconomia e Documentazione.
