Questa chiesa fu costruita fuori le mura di Jerez nel XV secolo. Fu costruito sul luogo in cui era già stato costruito un eremo omonimo durante la Riconquista, formando così il seme dell'ormai popolare quartiere di Santiago.
Si tratta di un edificio gotico a cui sono stati aggiunti la sommità della torre e il campanile barocco, nonché la piazza "Capilla del Sagrario".
La chiesa ha tre porte gotiche . L'altare ha un baldacchino di José Gallegos Arnosa di Jerez.
Durante i restauri del XXI secolo furono scoperti gravi difetti strutturali della chiesa che ne provocarono l'immediata chiusura. Nel 2016 la chiesa è stata riaperta.
