L'antico Calvario doveva esistere prima del 1593 , perché quest'anno esisteva già un santuario sull'altopiano
Era un luogo di devozione con una croce o un'immagine per i pellegrini che pregavano prima di entrare o uscire dalla città. Qui è venuta la processione che i Nazareni hanno condotto il Venerdì Santo . È noto che vi erano due croci primitive e altre furono collocate nel XVIII secolo.
Nel 1707 si concluse la costruzione dell'Eremo del Calvario con l'elemosina dei fedeli e il contributo del Terz'Ordine Francescano.
Nell'eremo si venera la statua della Madonna Addolorata .
Il Giovedì Santo parte la processione di "Gesù nella Colonna" e il Venerdì Santo c'è la salita del Calvario di Jesús Nazareno.
