Dopo il crollo del primo nuovo ponte nel 1741 , si sentì l'esigenza di migliorare questo sviluppo della città a causa dei grandi flussi di persone e merci che dovettero riprenderlo in prestito.
La vecchia porta araba del ponte fu sostituita e ampliata da quella attuale durante il regno del primo Borbone al trono di Spagna, Felipe V, nel 1742 , come testimonia l'iscrizione sulla pietra accanto alla porta.
Questo simbolo della città è costituito da un doppio arco scolpito sormontato da tre pinnacoli e adornato all'esterno con lo stemma della famiglia Angioina e lo stemma reale dei Borboni .
