Il Palais Rohan di Strasburgo fu costruito tra il 1732 e il 1742 secondo i progetti di Robert de Cotte, primo architetto del re, per il cardinale Armand-Gaston de Rohan-Soubise, principe vescovo di Strasburgo.
Progettato sul modello dei grandi alberghi parigini, il Palazzo Vescovile di Strasburgo è una delle più belle realizzazioni architettoniche del XVIII secolo francese, sia per l'elevazione nobile e classica delle sue facciate che per le sontuose decorazioni interne.
Costruita, decorata e arredata nell'arco di dieci anni, questa sontuosa residenza, rimasta praticamente immutata dalla sua costruzione, si distingue per la sua eccezionale unità di stile.
Il Museo delle Belle Arti della città si trasferì nel 1889, seguito dal Museo Archeologico nel 1913 e dal Museo delle Arti Decorative nel 1924.
