Il mitico circo di Gavarnie è stato inserito dall'UNESCO nel 1997 per i suoi valori naturali e culturali, che, insieme ai meno conosciuti ma altrettanto impressionanti e belli Estaubé e Troumouse, rappresentano un patrimonio naturale notevole, senza dubbio i migliori esempi nei Pirenei.
Il circo di Gavarnie, culla del pyrénisme, onorato dai romantici, si eleva a 3.248 m (sul Pic du Marboré), la cui cascata (la più alta d'Europa) è la più famosa. L'insieme formato dalla Brèche de Roland (colpita, secondo la leggenda, con la spada del nipote di Carlo Magno, Roland di Roncevaux) sorprende e suscita ancora ammirazione. I più orientali Estaubé e Troumouse sono più intatti, pittoreschi ma altrettanto grandiosi. Queste pareti si estendono per oltre 10 chilometri e nascondono numerosi laghetti: un vero piacere per chiunque sia alla ricerca di natura incontaminata, curata dall'uomo. Semplicemente grandioso...
