Tra la Leie e la costa si trovano più di 50 chiese che sono state risparmiate dalle ultime guerre e dove viene conservato il passato delle Fiandre francesi, la religione e l'arte. Qui possiamo trovare resti medievali, capolavori architettonici, opere e quadri del XVII, XVIII e XIX secolo che erano stati trascurati per troppo tempo. I Retabli ricevono nuovamente attenzione grazie all'associazione "Retables de France". L'organizzazione si impegna per la conservazione, il restauro e la rivalutazione di questo patrimonio. Riunisce comuni e parrocchie, le autorità governative e di dipartimento competenti, esperti e appassionati d'arte.
