Il traghetto sospeso di Rochefort è entrato in servizio nel 1900 ed è opera dell'ingegnere francese Ferdinand Arnodin. Dal 1976, l'opera è riconosciuta come monumento storico.
Questo traghetto sospeso è un'opera ingegneristica che collega le due rive della Charente tra Rochefort ed Échillais, senza ostacolare il traffico navale verso l'arsenale marittimo e il porto di Rochefort. È l'ultimo del suo genere in Francia.
