La Batteria Todt è intitolata a Fritz Todt. Era un generale, ma soprattutto un ingegnere-architetto del III Reich, e un buon amico di Adolf Hitler. Quest'ultimo gli affidò nel 1933 la realizzazione delle autostrade in Germania con l'obiettivo di ridurre la disoccupazione.
Nel 1935 fondò un'organizzazione paramilitare: l'OT (Organizzazione Todt). Fece realizzare all'O.T. la Linea Siegfried in vista dell'operazione Leone del Mare (l'invasione dell'Inghilterra). Questo progetto fu annullato nel 1940 da Hitler, e così la Linea Siegfried fu trasformata in parte della linea difensiva del Muro Atlantico.
Il 8 febbraio 1942 il Junkers JU 52 che trasportava il dottor Fritz Todt si schiantò misteriosamente durante il decollo. Non ci furono sopravvissuti. La Batteria Siegfried fu rinominata Batteria Todt in onore del suo costruttore.
