Gli Champs-Élysées sono famosi per gli ultimi chilometri del Tour de France, dove i corridori sfrecciano su ciottoli a grande velocità. Ma la conclusione più spettacolare del Tour de France su questa strada è stata senza dubbio quella del 1989. La lotta per il giallo è stata combattuta da Fignon e LeMond in una cronometro finale. LeMond ha vinto con soli 8 secondi di scarto. La differenza più piccola di sempre nel Tour de France. E questo lo deve soprattutto al nuovo manubrio da cronometro che ora è così classico.
