L'isola di Arcins è la più vicina a Bordeaux. Situata a 6 km dal centro di Bordeaux, è anche una delle uniche isole visitabili della Garonna e dell'estuario
È di forma allungata, si estende per oltre 2 chilometri e copre 37 ettari. Fattoria fino alla guerra, l'isola apparteneva poi all'INRA. Era allora uno dei principali luoghi di sperimentazione in Francia per il miglioramento di alcune specie vegetali. La temperatura media è di due gradi superiore a quella della terraferma e non gela quasi mai
Durante la tempesta del 1999, l'isola è stata completamente allagata e gli edifici erano troppo danneggiati per essere riparati. L'INRA decise di vendere l'isola a un privato che voleva trasformarla in un parco naturale e aprirla al pubblico.
