Seguendo la leggenda di San Menne, furono costruiti due monumenti religiosi dedicati al Santo: una cappella (vicino al villaggio di Puzieux) e un'abbazia nel villaggio di Poussay.
In questa abbazia vivevano le monache benedettine. Il pozzo fu costruito all'interno del chiostro nel XII secolo (colonne del XIII secolo, struttura del XVIII secolo, profondità 33 metri).
In origine, il pozzo era utilizzato solo dalle monache benedettine. Poi, quando l'abbazia fu distrutta durante la rivoluzione, tutti gli abitanti del villaggio la usarono per il loro consumo, per gli usi quotidiani (lavarsi?) e per abbeverare gli animali. Nel XVII secolo fu coperto per mantenere puliti i dintorni. Dopo la scoperta della sorgente e la costruzione di una fontana, l'uso del pozzo cessò.
