Naar aanleiding van de legende van de heilige Menne werden twee religieuze monumenten aan de heilige gewijd: een kapel (bij het dorp Puzieux) en een abdij in het dorp Poussay.
In deze abdij woonden de Benedictijnse nonnen. De put werd in de 12e eeuw binnen het klooster gebouwd (13e eeuwse zuilen, 18e eeuwse raamwerk, diepte 33 meter).
Oorspronkelijk werd de put alleen gebruikt door de Benedictijnse nonnen. Toen de abdij tijdens de revolutie werd verwoest, gebruikten alle dorpelingen het voor hun consumptie, dagelijks gebruik (wassen...), en om hun dieren te drenken. In de 17e eeuw werd het overdekt, om de omgeving schoon te houden. Na de ontdekking van de bron en de bouw van een fontein stopte het gebruik van de put.
