Situata sulla strada tra Saint-Mihiel e Woinville, questa fontana fu costruita nel 1915/1916 dalla 4ª Compagnia del Genio campale del III. Corpo d'Armata Bavarese. Costruita a forma di casetta, ha un serbatoio di 10 m³ alimentato dalla fattoria Vieux-Etang attraverso una conduttura di 800 metri. Questo ha permesso di fornire acqua corrente alle truppe tedesche in visita e ai cantonieri circostanti.
Il frontone originariamente riportava l'emblema dei Pionieri bavaresi, mentre i nomi dei soldati morti in questa unità erano incisi su entrambi i lati della fontana. In seguito all'offensiva franco-americana che liberò il Saillant de Saint-Mihiel (settembre 1918), le iscrizioni tedesche furono cancellate, a parte il disegno di un'ancora navale (emblema utilizzato anche in Francia dalle truppe coloniali). Sul terreno si è conservata la pavimentazione a forma di croce di ferro.
La fontana è stata restaurata dall'associazione "La Grande Tranchée de Calonne" nel 2023.
