Nell'XI e XII secolo, Courcelles-le-Roi era un castello reale, spesso visitato dai re di Francia. Nel XIV secolo,
Filippo VI di Valois donò il castello a Nicolas de Braque, suo grande amministratore di denaro. Il castello feudale, distrutto durante la Guerra dei Cento Anni, fu ricostruito nel 1389 da Jean Braque come imponente fortezza. Smantellato dagli inglesi nel 1424, Georges de Brilhac, consigliere e ciambellano del duca di Orléans, lo risollevò dalle rovine. Il castello fu saccheggiato durante la Rivoluzione francese. In seguito cadde in rovina: la torre ovest crollò nel 1880 e il tetto dell'ala ovest prese fuoco durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e crollò. Gli attuali proprietari sono impegnati a preservare e far rivivere i resti di questa residenza.
