Il Musée Charbonneau-Lassay ospita collezioni ricche e variegate, molte delle quali lasciate in eredità dallo studioso Louis Charbonneau-Lassay (1871-1946): oggetti archeologici provenienti dalla regione e da altri luoghi, libri antichi, spade e armi da fuoco. Oggi la sua collezione convive con dipinti del XIX secolo e pezzi emblematici dell'arte popolare di Loudun, senza dimenticare una sorprendente collezione di arte africana, tra cui imponenti maschere rituali.
Ospitato in un'ex casa comunale del XVIII secolo, nel quartiere più antico della città, il museo si trova accanto a monumenti storici tutelati come la Porte du Martray e la chiesa di St-Hilaire, un notevole edificio gotico.
