La piazza André-Maginot, alberata e pensata per i pedoni, si trova nel cuore della Ville-neuve, tra la stazione e la rue Saint-Jean, e appartiene amministrativamente al quartiere Charles III - Centre Ville.
Prende il nome da André Maginot (1877-1932), un politico francese responsabile della creazione della Linea Maginot.
La piazza si chiamava in precedenza "Place Saint-Jean" e aveva una porta distrutta nel 1874, la Porte Saint-Jean1.
Vennero quindi costruiti nuovi edifici, alcuni dei quali sono ottimi esempi dell'Arte del 1900 a Nancy. Il nome è stato dato nel 1940.
