Il castello di Montrevault, con il suo mastio e le sue mura di 1,80-2 metri, fu costruito intorno all'anno 1000 da Foulques Nerra, conte d'Angiò. Qui furono ospiti i re Carlo IX ed Enrico di Navarra, poi Enrico IV.
