Le torbiere sono strettamente legate alla presenza di sorgenti, falde acquifere o laghi. Questi ambienti, creatisi durante le ultime glaciazioni, sono estremamente fragili e sensibili a qualsiasi perturbazione del loro funzionamento idrologico.
Sono presenti anche altri habitat non determinanti, ma altrettanto importanti per il funzionamento di queste zone umide
paludi basse acide con varie carici o cotonose a foglie strette, torbiere con Molinia blu, corsi d'acqua,
prati e praterie umide. Il sito è anche un luogo di passaggio e di riposo per gli uccelli migratori.
