L'industria della coltelleria Nontron è erede di un know-how immemorabile e la sua storia è così lunga che è difficile datarne la nascita. Tuttavia, gli specialisti concordano sul fatto che il coltello Nontron sia il più antico coltello francese e che le sue origini risalgano almeno al XV secolo. I coltellinai di oggi producono ancora il coltello Nontron a mano, utilizzando le stesse tecniche dei loro predecessori. I prodotti della coltelleria Nontron sono più che semplici coltelli; sono prodotti militanti che difendono la conservazione in Francia dei mestieri manuali, del know-how e del territorio.
