Questa zona umida si estende per 737 ettari nel letto del Nied francese, comprendendo aree di prati salati e una torbiera alcalina. Sul fondo della valle, strati di sale si alternano a strati di marna dove l'acqua percolando forma una valle alluvionale alofila. Questi rarissimi prati salati ospitano le specie vegetali protette Céraiste douteux e Troscart maritime.
