Inizialmente chiamato Obermodern, il comune è stato chiamato Modern dal 1° gennaio 1974 al 17 aprile 1983 in seguito alla fusione con il villaggio di Zutzendorf, prima di diventare definitivamente Obermodern-Zutzendorf.
