Elisabetta nacque al Palazzo di Greenwich il 7 settembre. Nel 1554 divenne prigioniera nella Torre di Londra per ordine della sua sorellastra Mary. Si dice che al momento della sua liberazione abbia consumato un pasto in una taverna di Mark Lane e abbia ringraziato nella chiesa di All Hallows Staining, della quale rimane solo la torre. Elisabetta fu accolta come la nuova regina a Highgate nel novembre del 1558. Il Vescovo di Ely ricevette l'ordine di concedere parte della sua proprietà al suo favorito Christopher Hatton, dove costruì una casa nel 1577. Ci sono i resti di un ciliegio nell'angolo della Taverna Mitre attorno al quale si dice che la regina abbia danzato. C'è una targa al Deptford Strand che segna il luogo in cui Francis Drake fu nominato cavaliere dalla regina al suo ritorno dal viaggio. La Riserva di Caccia della regina Elisabetta (in realtà costruita nel 1543) si trova su Rangers Road a Chingford. Questo edificio a struttura in legno, che affacciava sulla Foresta di Epping, divenne una casa nel 1666 ed è stato acquisito dalla Corporazione di Londra nel 1878. Il palazzo Tudor di Hampton Court è aperto al pubblico. La morte di Elisabetta, avvenuta il 24 marzo al Palazzo di Richmond, è registrata su una targa in Old Palace Lane. Fu portata a Whitehall e sepolta nell'Abbazia di Westminster, dove ha un'effigie in marmo bianco. C'è anche una sua figura nel Museo dell'Undercroft dell'Abbazia e una statua fuori da St Dunstan's nella Chiesa di West a Fleet Street.
