Minchinhampton è un antico mercato nella Cotswolds, situato nel Distretto di Stroud nel Gloucestershire, nel Sud-Ovest dell'Inghilterra. La città si trova in cima a una collina, a 4 miglia a sud-est di Stroud. Il comune offre una vista panoramica sull'estuario del Severn verso il Galles e oltre nelle Cotswolds.
Il nome 'Minchinhampton' è attestato per la prima volta come Hantone nel Domesday Book del 1086. Appare come Minchenhamtone nei Registri delle Assize del 1221. Il nome era originariamente l'Old English Heatun, che significa "alta città o insediamento". L'elemento aggiuntivo è l'Old English mynecen, che significa una suora, ed è correlato alla parola moderna "monaco". Minchinhampton un tempo apparteneva al monastero di Caen in Normandia, Francia.
