La strada A99 si trova interamente all'interno del precedente contea di Caithness negli Highlands della Scozia. Corre generalmente da nord/nordest dalla A9 a Latheron fino a Wick e alla A836 a John o' Groats. Faceva parte della A9 fino a quando la classificazione A9 è stata trasferita a quello che era il collegamento A895-A882 tra Latheron e Thurso. Tra Latheron e Wick segue, per lo più, il percorso di una delle strade di Telford.
