L'arcipelago britannico è un gruppo di isole dell'Europa nord-occidentale, le cui due maggiori sono Gran Bretagna e Irlanda.
In tempi recenti il nome dell'arcipelago ha creato seri problemi a livello politico, in quanto il nome fu coniato quando le isole che ne fanno parte erano tutte sotto l'Impero britannico: oggi invece l'Irlanda, soprattutto in quanto Stato indipendente, ma anche Jersey, Guernsey e l'isola di Man , si ritengono estranee a questa classificazione. L'Eire ha addirittura escluso dai libri di testo scolastici e dagli atti ufficiali il termine, che sta diventando desueto anche negli atti ufficiali britannici.
