L'Accademia Athonia è una scuola religiosa greco-ortodossa fondata nel 1749 sul Monte Athos. La scuola offriva un'istruzione di alto livello, dove venivano insegnate la filosofia antica e le scienze fisiche moderne. Grazie all'accademia, la comunità monastica del Monte assunse un ruolo di primo piano nel Nuovo illuminismo greco durante il XVIII secolo. I circoli conservatori criticarono l'insegnamento promulgato dalla scuola e, per questo, fu chiusa nel 1821; venne riaperta nel 1842. L'Accademia fu chiusa anche negli anni dal 1916 al 1930 e dal 1940 al 1953 a causa delle guerre mondiali.
