Spalato è la seconda città della Croazia, capoluogo della regione spalatino-dalmata, principale centro della Dalmazia, avente 178.192 abitanti . Sede universitaria e dell'arcidiocesi di Spalato-Macarsca, la città dalmata sorge su una penisola che si trova tra la parte orientale della baia dei Castelli e il canale di Spalato, tratto di mare Adriatico che si trova tra le isole di Bua, Zirona Grande e Solta.
