La battaglia di Clontarf fu combattuta il 23 aprile del 1014 in Irlanda tra le forze del re supremo irlandese Brian Boru e quelle guidate dal re del Leinster, Máelmorda mac Murchada, e da Brodir dell'isola di Man . Le truppe di Máelmorda mac Murchada furono sconfitte e da quel momento ci fu una forte riduzione del controllo vichingo sull'isola, dove non fecero più razzie e si limitarono alle attività di pesca e di commercio. Brian Boru trovò la morte in questa battaglia, ucciso da alcuni norreni che attaccarono la sua tenda, dove egli si trovava a pregare. Dopo questo scontro, l'Irlanda tornò a essere una terra divisa tra molti piccoli regni separati.
