Val Gardena è anche conosciuta come la valle degli intagliatori di legno. A Val Gardena vivono ancora più di 1000 persone che si guadagnano da vivere intagliando e dipingendo legno. Tutto è iniziato nel 17° secolo, quando gli agricoltori iniziarono a realizzare oggetti di legno come attività supplementare nei giorni invernali.
